Fabric Friday

i found this fabric in a scrap bag at the thrift store back in February. i LOVE it, though my scanner screwed up the fabulous colours.
scan0001

so i spent way too much time playing around in photoshop fixing it
scan0001COLOURS

gorgeous! if i wasn't so crappy with technology, i'd figure out how to turn it into a repeating design and have more printed using spoonflower or fabric on demand.

for more fabricy goodness, check out today's post on vintagefabrics.blogspot.com (i love the last one!) and pretty much any post on printpattern.blogspot.com (even if it's not on fabric, you'll wish it was!). yum!

Even with the krappy colors I can see the fabric is beautiful. Great find!

Hi, Amy! Kim from Spoonflower here. As a fellow vintage fabric lover, I just wanted to share with you something I did recently when I bought a lovely 60's era floral smock at a garage sale. The fabric was gorgeous, but there wasn't much there to make anything else from. So I hired Beth Spenader (aka, "MissBlackPepper") on Etsy to take a scan of a piece of it and create a new, seamlessly repeating version. It came out beautifully and pretty true to the original (minus the stains!). I think I'll also continue to play around with it in Photoshop myself and see if I can't make a few more colorways out of it.

If you want to go the complete do-it-yourself route, you might take a look at Rachel Galloway's series of tutorials on creating tiling designs on her blog, here: http://blog.mammamadedesigns.com/archive/2008/06/11/spoonflower-fabric-development-series-ndash-part-1.aspx

We've had a lot of people use her instructions very successfully with no previous design experience.

Good luck with your beautiful piece of fabric!
